It's difficult remastering animation that is so outdated. |

I just asked the people I'm with (wife, mom, and dad) what they thought looked better. I showed them all of the pictures showing the differences between dragon box and orange bricks, and all said the orange bricks looked like better quality. /shrug |

The bricks have never failed me. I've honestly never seen a point in the Dboxes. I never understood while those were out to buy when the bricks were out -- vice-versa. I've heard they're pretty much the same, so the bricks should do it. |

It's just a bit of bias selection. When people want to show how bad the orange bricks are they purposely choose the worst possible frames. In general I think orange bricks are fine, not great, but fine. Dragon box quality isn't too bad either though so I think both are worth the purchase. Though Dragon Box doesn't have Funi soundtrack which is a major downside for some. Edit: Got the wrong quote first time, I suck at this. Edited by Clearin, Jul 6 2013, 11:29 PM.

The reason the Dragon Boxes completely trump the Orange Bricks is because of the packaging and general quality of the product. The boxes look fantastic, they come with incredibly nice individual packages, disc art, and a booklet for each box. They create a beautiful picture when aligned together - they have the best version of the show in Japanese subbed which includes the opening and ending themes. The Orange Bricks have got nothing on that. Quality, I honestly don't really care about. I much prefer the Dragon Box picture quality, but it's not worth arguing over since every other aspect of the Dboxes is superior. However, I still think the Orange Bricks are a nice thing to own for anyone wanting to collect the entire series. They don't look as nice and don't have all the bonus content, but they include all of the episodes with both the English and Japanese audio, which is all you really need. Why would packaging by a deciding factor when deciding which collection to buy? It seems rather irrelevant. Better packaging simply means needing to pay more money for something that has no effect on the product you're buying. |

Clearin brings up an excellent point. Why, when it comes down to the quality of the actual show, does packaging matter? Overall when considering price, yes, but not quality of the show, which is what I thought we were discussing at the moment. I'd buy my favorite Blu-ray wrapped in a bag of s*** if it was the best quality, over something of lesser quality with a shiny hardcover case. Parry? Edited by Pyrus, Jul 7 2013, 01:54 AM.

Because it's probably the nicest looking box set I've ever seen for an older anime like DBZ. For collectors, it's a must have, and I'm a collector. I notice those things and care greatly about them, but I did say that it's not the same for anyone. Orange bricks are just fine for the average fan. |

I'm a fan on the bruce faulconer tracks so I went with the orange bricks. I made use of the weak american dollar in 2011 and purchased seasons 1-6 off amazon (about $15USD each) which was a bargain because they retail for about three times that here. People seem to think their packaging is rubbish but that's not true... you get a glossy dvd-book thing containing 6 discs per saga. You also get a little booklet with some nice character art. It's certainly not poor quality. I just wish they never cropped the image to 16:9. It was completely unnecessary. If customers wanted to crop the image, they could have done so using their dvd remote or media player. It just reduced the amount of work needed in remastering video and was played off as a marketing gimmick. Spoiler: click to toggle
